What is Netizen Academy?
Netizen Academy is established by Save the Children Hong Kong to provide preventive
measures towards the growing concern of child protection issues in the digital world. Netizen
Academy is a web-based awareness centre for hosting child-friendly resources for combating
the problem of online child sexual abuse.
Why we should act?
The online world is the real world. We can benefit from surfing the web but can also be
harmed if we lack awareness and knowledge on how to protect ourselves.
Connecting to the digital world is an integral part of life. Access of children and young people to
the digital world for sharing opinions and ideas, searching for information and connecting with
friends needs to be ensured. Children have the right to be protected in the digital world, just
like in the physical world.
The character
The mascot of Netizen Academy, Super Netson, was designed by a student in Hong Kong, who
adapted the character from the logo of Save the Children. This superhero aims to protect
children from online threats and risks. Its body -- which takes the form of a tablet – and its right
arm was specifically designed to analyse and monitor the threats from the digital world
friends needs to be ensured. Children have the right to be protected in the digital world, just
like in the physical world.
